recommended Educational apps
Oh, the possibilities available at your fingertips... But where should you start? Try a few of these suggested iPad apps. Hey, if others are recommending them, they must be good, right? And if I find any that I really like, I will be sure to let you know. I hope you'll do the same and I can expand this website to include resources for each department. But for now, let's begin with some of these...
- Go to the source... Apple! (Browse by subject area, but make sure you look at the price!)
- "15 iPad Skills Every Teacher and Student Should Have"
Do you have any other suggestions? Don't forget to let me know so I add them here. Thanks!

moodle MobileWhile the reviews aren't very high for this app, we do use Moodle at school. One reviewer had these helpful words, though: "Ok all you guys rating this app bad either don't even know what moodle is or don't know how to use it! To save your schools moodle to the app go to your schools moodle in safari (or that new google chrome app) and copy the URL then go to the app and paste it in the URL slot, that way you get the right URL, and make sure you copied everything. Then type what your username and password is, and then your done! Works great for me, although a little confusing."
Cost: FREE! **Note: I can't get it to work on my iPad Mini! We need the new Moodle a.s.a.p. Also, My Moodle is for phones. Sorry! Moodle Mobile is for the iPad, but neither one will work with our version of Moodle. :-( |
edmodoEdmodo is another LMS like Moodle that kind of looks like Facebook so students may feel more comfortable with it. If nothing else, you can connect to other educators here.

Doodle buddyUse your finger or a stylus pen to draw, paint and create. I recommend this app just because it seems like it could replace whiteboards that are often used to check student comprehension. Now you can ask a question to the class and everyone can write or draw their answer and share. At such a low cost, why not?
Cost: FREE! |
EducreationsThis app seems to be a cross between making presentations and Doodle Buddy because you can use your iPad like a whiteboard to make presentations with audio and what not for students. Sounds like Khan academy kind of stuff, if you ask me.
Cost: FREE! http://www.educreations.com/ **Recommended by Curtis Becker. |
Doceri Interactive WhiteboardControl your desktop with this app. iTunes says, "Combining screencasting, desktop control, and an interactive whiteboard in one app, you’ll never have to turn your back to the class or audience again. Doceri does it all!"

Mobile mouseFrom Megan Simila: "Mobile Mouse (free) turns your whole ipad into a
trackpad or mouse. This allows you to
browse online, look at photos from anywhere in the classroom. I can’t tell that is allows you to use
presentation software, however."

Class MessengerThis is an app that is designed to help you stay in contact with your students' parents as well as your students. It would require a little work on your part, but it looks like it could be a good tool and easy to use.

Another opinion about the best apps for educators
Most of the apps covered in this video are not free (except Dropbox and Evernote--they're free!) but perhaps you would be interested in investing in some of these to enhance the usage of your iPad.

make your iPad work more like a computer
Again, these are apps you'd have to purchase, but they will make your iPad run more like a computer (something that our students may need to know!).
Side note: I've had issues with students working on their iPads and turning in work in the right format. These apps could help. |
