Check out these links to recommended apps you could use in English class. Below you'll find apps that I've tested and approved (eventually... once I get my iPad) and stories about how I used them. And as always, let me know if you've found success with an app and I'd be more than happy to add it.

shakespeareThe complete works of Shakespeare. Enough said.

Swipe SpeareWhat's that? Your students don't understand Shakespeare? Well, with this app they can choose to read the original or modern mode. With a built-in dictionary and a biography about Shakespeare, it's worth having.

Grammar upFrom iTunes: "Grammar Up is a multiple choice quiz system for English which provides over 1800 questions across 20 grammar categories." It can help learners to improve their grammar, word selection and vocabulary. There's even a timer to help improve response times under exam time constraints.

Grammar up: Phrasal VerbsMore grammar quizzes, but you can focus on those tricky prepositions. Hooray!

My Grammar LabThere are three levels of MyGrammarLab so you can have your students advance as they are able. This app has a glossary and then modules that include quizzes. It's a nice way to practice grammar.

Writing promptsGet through writer's block with this app--phrases, quotes, characters, scenes, words, sketches, current events, etc. will help you find something to write about.

Vocabulary for GRE, SAT, Act... by SuvobiThis app is nothing earth-shattering, but it would be a great way to have students complete private word studies and then you could perhaps take some of the words that you found and quiz the kiddos in class. I really enjoyed the personal quiz feature of this app, so I think for that it is worth checking out.
